Bio

Born in 1970 in Duncan, Oklahoma, John has been drawing, painting, doodling and creating as soon as he was able to hold a crayon. Drawings that his mother saved from when he was only three years old reveal an obsession with the human figure. The figures in these drawings show not only the distorted perceptions of a child, but a fascination with the human expression. This obsession, as well as his distorted view, continues today.

John has studied art at Oklahoma City University, Cameron University and Santa Fe Community College.

John recently relocated to the pastured suburbs of Portland, Oregon where he balances urban contemporary art with rural farm life.

Statement

Behind the abstract facade of John's misleadingly simple and raw pieces lurk the much more profound issue of personal identity and social commentary. John confronts the harsh realities of the world, filtering them through illustrations of wide-eyed figures with exaggerated proportions. His playful style and child-like imagination takes the viewer on an exploration through a dark, complex and often melancholy universe.
